By now you know, every year I choose a subject to focus on for my personal growth and read (at least) one book a month on that topic. In previous years I’ve chosen issues like “fear” and “courage” and “money.” In 2020, a year that by any standard turned out to be a very sad, very disturbing year, I ironically chose “happiness” as my target issue to read about. About two thirds of the way through the year I read Glennon Doye’s book Untamed (see my full list below) and decided that I wanted to explore in my reading how sex and happiness were interconnected, so my last few books are oriented toward sex, sensuality, and the physical experience of joy. I don’t necessarily recommend all of the books below, but they all gave me something to chew on. Asterisks are next to the books I loved best. Here’s my 2020 reading list:
The Thing About Life is that One Day You’ll be Dead by David Shields
The Happiness Equation by Neil Pasricha
**Geography of Bliss by Eric Wiener
The Happiness Advantage: How a positive brain fuels success in work and life by Shawn Achor
**10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help That Actually Works–A True Story by Dan Harris
The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin
Permission to Feel by Marc Brackett
How to Stubbornly Refuse to Make Yourself Miserable by Albert Ellis
Happy for No Reason by Marci Shimoff
**The State of Affairs by Esther Perel
**Untamed by Glennon Doyle

F*ck Like a Goddess by Alexandra Roxo
**Pussy: A Reclamation by Regena Thomashauer
Sex at Dawn by Christopher Ryan and Casilda Jetha
I’d so love to hear your recommendations for reading on the topics of either happiness and/or sex, friends. Pop them in the comments. And for 2021, I’ve chose the topic of LEADERSHIP, so I’m looking for ideas for the coming months. Bring them on. Happy reading! xoxo -Cami
